This site is largely dedicated to setting up the GameEx Front-End on your Windows-based PC, HTPC or dedicated MAME cabinet. You will also have access to working configuration files from many emulators to help guide you through the process... Not to mention emulator-specific command line options, links to the best emulators and other goodies.
Before you get started, you should know a little bit about what GameEx is. Creator Tom Spiers writes:
GameEx is a graphical DirectX based front-end for MAME, Zinc, Daphne, PC Games, and all command line based game emulators, along with being a complete Home Theatre PC solution. The original goal was for it to be used on Windows Media Center as a plug in for playing games and for Arcade Cabinets although will run on Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, XP, and Vista. If you have Media Center and don't need a games plug-in, GameEx still adds additional features including Internet Radio, News Reader, DVD's on disk, and Karaoke.
So it's (more or less) a very attractive and insanely easy way to access many different forms of media and control all your emulators without having to know too much about using command line options. I found GameEx entirely on accident and haven't looked back since, and I'm sure once you get comfortable with it you'll love it too!
Even the best software has it's dark side however... It took me months of scrubbing the internet and a ton of posts in the forum to get it running just right, so I've set up this website to make it easier for everyone to find the answers they're looking for!
I hope you find this information a useful tool for setting up your new piece of software and you spend countless hours actually playing games rather than setting things up. If you can't find the information you're looking for, you can head over to the GameEx forum and one of the many helpful members of the community may have a solution for you (they've been extremely helpful to me!). Of course, if you know something about an emulator not listed here and would like to contribute, email me by clicking the link on your left.
Thanks, and enjoy!

A nice complete theme by Acidbrain, the backgrounds are very clean and professional. Acidbrain says it's only 80% done right now, so watch for a future update.

AUDIO ACCURACY: 99%

GAMEEX CONFIG: Yes, GameEx importable INI located below. :)
NOTES: KEGA may very well be the best emulator for all the systems listed above. It's still a work in progress but is so accurate you'll feel like you were using the original hardware! Fusion successfully emulates all types of controllers (even Genesis 6-button with working mode button!) and all regions of ROM images. Also supports Save States, Battery Saves and cheat engines! Worth the download!
GameEx Configuration - KEGA Fusion
Below you will find a page-by-page guide for configuring GameEx. If you're like me, you prefer to keep your systems seperate, so I will help you configure the three basic / most used consoles. If you're having problems and need further assistance, have your configuration settings ready and visit the GameEx forum. Someone can probably help you.
Sega Genesis
SEGA GENESIS / MEGA DRIVE
STEP ONE: INSTALL THE EMULATOR!
Download the emulator and extract the zip file to C:\EMULATORS (If you use a different file path, make sure you change it accordingly!)
STEP TWO: CONFIGURE THE EMULATOR
If you want to map the keys on your joystick, launch Fusion.exe and do so through the GUI. You can also change file paths (such as save states and snapshots) and resolution through the GUI.
This is the easiest possible way to configure any emulator - Fusion will create an ini file to save all your default settings.
STEP THREE: IMPORT THE KEGA GENESIS INI
Download the following file: KEGAgen.zip
Extract the 'CHQ - KEGA Genesis.ini' file to the following directory:
C:\Program Files\GameEx\CONFIG\EMULATORS\IMPORT-EXPORT
NOTE: This is the default GameEx directory. If you use a different working path, you must change this.

STEP FOUR: OPEN GameEx CONFIGURATION MENU
Open START->ALL PROGRAMS->GAMEEX->CONFIGURATION
Choose which emulator tab you would like to use for your Genesis / Mega Drive menu.
ENABLED: Select 'YES' to enable the emulator.
IMPORT EMULATOR: If you properly extracted the INI (step three) you should be able to select 'CHQ - Kega Genesis' from the pull-down menu. If not, you'll have to click 'IMPORT' and point GameEx at the 'CHQ - Kega Genesis.ini' file.
ROM FILTER: Leave this blank unless you know what file format you want to use (EX: *.bin;*.zip)
ROM PATH: Point GameEx at the folder you keep your Genesis / MegaDrive ROMs in.
STEP FIVE: SAVE YOUR CONFIGURATION!
Click 'SAVE' on the lower right of the screen and exit.

If you did everything right, you should be ready to play your Genesis ROMs from GameEx. Launch it and give it a try!

Sega Master System
SEGA MASTER SYSTEM
I'm gonna go ahead and assume you already installed the emulator in using the previous walk-thru and skip the first two steps. If you didn't, please follow Steps 1 and 2 in the Genesis section before following the next step.
STEP ONE: IMPORT THE KEGA MASTER SYSTEM INI
Download the following file: KEGAsms.zip
Extract the 'CHQ - KEGA Master System.ini' file to the following directory:
C:\Program Files\GameEx\CONFIG\EMULATORS\IMPORT-EXPORT
NOTE: This is the default GameEx directory. If you use a different working path, you must change this.

STEP TWO: OPEN GameEx CONFIGURATION MENU
Open START->ALL PROGRAMS->GAMEEX->CONFIGURATION
Choose which emulator tab you would like to use for your Master System menu.
ENABLED: Select 'YES' to enable the emulator.
IMPORT EMULATOR: If you properly extracted the INI (step three) you should be able to select 'CHQ - KEGA Master System' from the pull-down menu. If not, you'll have to click 'IMPORT' and point GameEx at the 'CHQ - KEGA Master System.ini' file.
ROM FILTER: Leave this blank unless you know what file format you want to use (EX: *.sms;*.zip)
ROM PATH: Point GameEx at the folder you keep your Master System ROMs in.
STEP THREE: SAVE YOUR CONFIGURATION!
Click 'SAVE' on the lower right of the screen and exit.

If you did everything right, you should be ready to play your Master System ROMs from GameEx. Launch it and give it a try!

Sega GameGear
SEGA GAME GEAR
I'm gonna go ahead and assume you already installed the emulator in using the previous walk-thru and skip the first two steps. If you didn't, please follow Steps 1 and 2 in the Genesis section before following the next step.
STEP ONE: IMPORT THE KEGA GAME GEAR INI
Download the following file: KEGAgg.zip
Extract the 'CHQ - KEGA GameGear.ini' file to the following directory:
C:\Program Files\GameEx\CONFIG\EMULATORS\IMPORT-EXPORT
NOTE: This is the default GameEx directory. If you use a different working path, you must change this.

STEP TWO: OPEN GameEx CONFIGURATION MENU
Open START->ALL PROGRAMS->GAMEEX->CONFIGURATION
Choose which emulator tab you would like to use for your Master System menu.
ENABLED: Select 'YES' to enable the emulator.
IMPORT EMULATOR: If you properly extracted the INI (step three) you should be able to select 'CHQ - KEGA GameGear' from the pull-down menu. If not, you'll have to click 'IMPORT' and point GameEx at the 'CHQ - KEGA GameGear.ini' file.
ROM FILTER: Leave this blank unless you know what file format you want to use (EX: *.gg;*.zip)
ROM PATH: Point GameEx at the folder you keep your GameGear ROMs in.
STEP THREE: SAVE YOUR CONFIGURATION!
Click 'SAVE' on the lower right of the screen and exit.

If you did everything right, you should be ready to play your GameGear ROMs from GameEx. Launch it and give it a try!
I'm currently experimenting with the SegaCD ISOs at present. If you think I might have missed something, or you have an emulator setup or importable INI to send for future walk-thrus and FAQ's, zip your files and email them to me here. Make sure you put ConfigHQ in the subject line!
